I'm a father, husband, surfer and sailor in Hawaii. I was a stresseed out chef and restaurant owner for 19 years but at a great cost to my physical and mental health. At 46, I quit my career and to see if I could make a living in sailing. I worked on tourist boats for several years, but I'm an entrepreneur at heart, and it really wasn't what I was looking for.
So, I risked it all again and quit my new job. I found the legendary Trimaran Free Spirit for sale in Honolulu and she definitely needed some love. I'm on a mission to restore and sail Free Spirit and document the journey.
The Cold Beer Yacht Club was inspired by my boat. They say you gotta live your brand! Free Spirit came to Hawaii via the Caribbean and the South Pacific in the 1970's. When she was built in 1968 behind a house in San Diego, she was the biggest trimaran in the world. She operated as a membership based club for 2 decades, so she's always been about creating community. I want to continue that tradition.
Welcome to the club,
Mike
